Huawei Canada has announced that it will cooperate with Ontario, Canada to develop the "5G Ontario" project. Under the partnership agreement, Huawei Canada will invest $212 million in Ontario to provide hundreds of R&D positions for highly skilled personnel in the region, and will further strengthen Ontario's position as a global knowledge economy center.
It is estimated that with the launch of the project, Huawei Canada will set up new R&D laboratories in Markham and Waterloo, and expand Ottawa's existing research facilities, which will provide more than 250 new jobs.
The “5G Ontario†project will focus on advanced communications research initiatives, including faster Internet speeds and related technologies such as cloud computing, data analytics and mobile security.
Huawei plans to invest a total of $303 million in Canada over the next five years to develop 5G and related technologies; $212 million of this will be provided by the Ontario Government Employment Prosperity Fund.
