Mr. Li Shiyi, Vice President of Cree's Asia Pacific Business Unit, pointed out in the LEDforum 2009 Market Trends and Innovation Application Seminar on November 24 that the development of LED lighting standards is indispensable in promoting the growth of the LED industry. To maintain the quality of LED lighting, not only can accelerate the popularization of LED lighting, but also achieve a significant reduction in energy saving costs.
Vice President Li said that the current standard setting is currently led by the US Energy Agency, and related standards (such as ANSI, NEMA, CIE, UL, IEC, NIST and CSA) are working on the development of solid-state lighting related standards. Since 2008, several related standards have been issued, including IES RP-16, ANSI C78.377, LM-79 and LM-80, which define lighting engineering. ANSI C78.377 mainly defines the color temperature of solid-state lighting. The color temperature is also defined according to the color temperature specification of the fluorescent lamp, which is divided into 8 blocks, from 2700K to 6500K. The LM-79 is a measurement method for defining solid-state lighting products. Includes measurements of luminosity and power; the LM-80 is a measurement method that defines the LED source.
In September 2008, the ENERGY STAR program also publicized the standard for solid-state lighting for residential and non-residential use, including current (short-term) and future lighting efficiency, color temperature, color rendering and longevity.
Vice President Li further pointed out that only by complying with solid-state lighting specifications can ensure the quality of LED lighting products. Cree is one of the leading brands in the industry and has developed a series of products for lighting applications, including single crystal and polycrystalline according to market specifications. The LED packaging unit is expected to create more value to accelerate the market penetration of LED lighting.
