Renesas Technology Corp. The SH-MobileHD1 video processing component delivers approximately six times better performance than Renesas' previous products, supporting full HD video on a single chip. In addition to focusing on the low power consumption that is critical to mobile phones, the new application processor also has powerful multimedia capabilities. Full HD video processing on a single chip.
With the following innovations, the SH-MobileHD1 is the industry's first application processor that provides full HD processing for mobile phones. In terms of full HD video resolution, it supports the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video compression standard (H.264) with a recording/playback frame rate of 30 frames per second (fps).
• The maximum operating frequency is 500MHz, which is about twice that of Renesas' early products.
• The performance of the Video Processing Unit (VPU) is about six times that of previous Renesas products.
• A video input interface for camera modules that conforms to the Mobile Industry Processor Interface (MPI) CSI-2 standard.
• Enhanced internal bus architecture.
In addition, the SH-MobileHD1 also reduces the current consumption by means of enhanced external power control, and realizes video application functions comparable to digital home appliances (such as LCD TVs).
(1) Dedicated audio DSP that can reduce power consumption
The SH-MobileHD1 integrates two 24-bit dedicated audio DSPs to reduce the audio processing load on the CPU and reduce power consumption. This allows a DSP to perform (stereo) audio processing, such as AAC (Advanced Audio Decoding) high-quality audio compression standard and Dolby Digital codec, with standby power; while other DSPs are used to achieve sound enhancement, such as Balance and Sample Rate Conversion (SRC). At the same time, the SH-MobileHD1 can also distribute heavy-duty processing tasks to dual DSPs. Support for Dolby Digital and 5.1 channel audio allows it to be paired with applications specifically designed for consumer audio components.
(2) Enhanced integration with digital home appliances and networks
The SH-MobileHD1 has an interface that supports interconnection with a transmitting microchip, which becomes an HDMI high-speed multimedia interface for interconnecting AV components. This allows full HD video to be interconnected with and output through digital home appliances, including LCD TVs or Blu-ray Disc recorders. In addition, the SH-MobileHD1 can also be interconnected with SD memory cards and wireless LAN (WLAN) modules, and supports MPEG2-TS multiplex and MP4 formats. Since MPEG2-TS is rapidly being promoted as a multiplex format for high-definition and full-HD video in the field of digital home appliances, the SH-MobileHD1 supports the easy sharing of content between digital home appliances and mobile phones. When content is stored in MP4 format, it can be easily shared via a network such as WLAN, providing the practicality of a video application.
(3) Small package
Although the SH-MobileHD1 can support full HD video, it only uses the small 407-pin package of the SH-MobileHD1. The application processor and 512Mb of synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) are integrated into a single package for system-in-package (SiP) devices for greater system compactness.
