According to the British Financial Times on November 5, Osram, the world's second largest lighting manufacturer, announced the appointment of Olaf Berlien as the next CEO. The appointment will take effect in January 2015.
Osram announced on its official website that Olaf Berlien will also serve as the company's chief technology officer. It is understood that Olaf Berlien has held senior positions in several German high-tech industrial groups, including the CEO of the Maxwell Group, the CTO of the ThyssenKrupp Group, and the consultant of the German Commercial Bank. In addition, the announcement mentioned the former CEO of the company, Wolfgang Dehen, as a voluntary departure.
According to industry insiders, Osram has experienced a transformation from traditional lamps to new LED lighting since the spin-off from the Siemens Group. In July this year, the company announced that it would lay off 7,800 people worldwide, and the business situation is worrying. Whether Olaf Berlien's ability to take the lead will turn the focus of the industry.
