Industry insiders pointed out that 3G network coverage will become the focus of China Unicom's investment this year. The UMTS900 has a good performance in low-cost coverage and its industry chain is relatively mature. The most important thing is that China Unicom's 2G business has been inevitably declining. 3G coverage improvement: UMTS900 is the best choice
Judging from the distribution of users, the current 3G users generally come from urban areas with good network coverage. To ensure the advantages of 3G services, China Unicom must accelerate the construction of 3G premium networks. From the data of the drive test, when AMR is enabled when it is not busy, the MOS value is lower than the original network by 0.05, which is within the normal range. When busy, using AMR HR, the MOS value is lower than the original network by 0.17, which is within the acceptable range. The average rate of the HSDPA service in the UMTS900 experimental network is 4.2 Mbit / s, which meets the target requirements of the 3G network; the average MOS of the UMTS900 voice service is 3.90, which also reaches the level of the current network.
Of course, network technology is only one aspect, and the maturity and robustness of the industry chain are the most critical issues. Up to now, there are close to 40 commercial UMTS900 networks in the world. The operation of these networks has fully proved that UMTS900 technology has achieved good effects in improving the coverage of 3G networks in rural areas and dense urban areas.
In terms of terminals, the related industry chain is fully mature, and more than 700 terminals have been released worldwide. The most famous is Apple ’s iphone4.
