Watkins believes that the price of LED lighting will fall sharply in the short term. The evolution of LED lighting is clear. When the price of LED lamps falls to $10 per unit, the company's technology will be competitive in the market.
In order to reduce the price of Helieon, Bridgelux cooperated with Molex, an electrical system and fiber optic product developer, to propose a design concept that can be easily disassembled and upgraded. In contrast to the current LED lighting modules, in the past, if the LED lighting module was to be upgraded, it would be necessary to destroy the entire set of lamps to be removed, resulting in no small cost to consumers.
Mike Picini, vice president of Molex, said that the connector and socket design is the focus of the LED market, allowing people to replace the entire set of lighting equipment to meet future needs. Picini said that creating LED emitters with a long-lasting overall transmission efficiency is a challenge for the industry.
Watkins said that Helieon will be the green energy technology that everyone will talk about in the next two years. The product is expected to be mass-produced in the second quarter and is currently scheduled for shipment in May.
