Johnson & Johnson's power generation makes solar power close to thermal power in 3 years

Johnson & Johnson relies on technological innovation to achieve first-class results in the field of thin-film solar modules and photovoltaic power generation technology research. Johnson & Johnson's amorphous silicon thin film battery has made it possible for solar power to approach the cost of thermal power plants in the past three years due to its huge cost advantage. Sha Xiaolin, chairman of Johnson & Johnson Optoelectronics pointed out.

According to reports, China's first fifth-generation large-area amorphous silicon thin-film battery has been put into mass production in Johnson & Johnson. The company cooperates with famous foreign vacuum equipment manufacturing companies to jointly develop, improve and manufacture the new technology of thin film battery core equipment, and cooperate with domestic research institutes and multinational companies to develop and produce laser engraving, laser de-edge, vacuum. The key equipment such as sputtering makes the whole product line the world's leading position, so that the average conversion efficiency of Johnson & Johnson Photovoltaic Amorphous Silicon Thin Film Battery reaches 6.5%, ranking among the world's first.

The cost of Johnson & Johnson's photovoltaic module is expected to drop to US$0.50 per watt in two and a half years. This cost will reduce the PV on-grid price to 0.65 yuan per kWh. Sha Xiaolin said that to achieve this goal, we must maximize production capacity, minimize equipment investment, optimize conversion efficiency, and achieve the best level of raw and auxiliary materials. These conditions, especially Johnson & Johnson's unique single-layer thin film battery production technology, will significantly reduce production costs.

At the same time, Johnson & Johnson also invented and produced the world's first single-layer thin-film battery that does not require laminate packaging, which reduces component weight by 50% and lower cost, creating the best conditions for popularizing solar cell applications in buildings. Its production process has applied for invention patents in nearly 60 countries.

Johnson & Johnson is expected to reach 500 megawatts by the end of 2010, becoming China's largest amorphous silicon thin film battery production base. At present, Johnson & Johnson has built three production lines in the Nantong plant and put them into mass production with a capacity of 100MW. This capacity can enter the top five of the world's fifth-generation amorphous silicon thin film battery production plants. The company plans to put three more production lines this year, with a capacity of 200MW, and another nine production lines next year. By the end of 2010, the production capacity will reach 500MW.
