Wolfson Microelectronics Co., Ltd. has introduced the WM9001 Mono 1W Switchable AB/D Class Speaker Driver. The WM9001 provides portable application system designers with superior audio performance and greater flexibility.The device features many user-selectable features such as Class D or Class AB output modes, single-ended or differential input modes, device clocks, and speaker gains that can be set by the system designer to optimize for a specific application.
In addition, the device has a small footprint that can be placed close to the horn, simplifying PCB layout and maintaining signal integrity due to the shortened high frequency signal loop length. Differential input and output modes eliminate unwanted noise, improve audio performance, and enhance RF noise rejection. By using an integrated oscillator to clock the Class D output, the number of external components can be reduced. Low leakage, high PSRR, and blast noise suppression allow the speaker to be powered directly from the battery without affecting battery life or audio quality.
The WM9001 seamlessly interfaces with the WM8990 audio hub codec and the new WM8400 audio and power management IC to deliver a complete stereo 1W AB/D speaker drive solution for multimedia mobile handsets. The WM9001 easily interfaces with Wolfson's high-performance, low-power audio codecs and digital-to-analog converters to deliver high-quality speaker drive performance for portable applications.
The WM9001 is available in a small 3x3mm QFN-16 and 1.64x1.64mm CSP package, making it ideal for space-constrained applications such as cell phones, navigation devices, media players, notebooks and electronic dictionaries.
