BYD yesterday released a sales report for July 2018. According to data, BYD sold 37,315 new cars in July, little change compared with previous months. Cumulative sales this year reached 261,812, an increase of 23% over the same period last year. Among them, the sales of new energy vehicles in July totaled 18,793, and the cumulative sales this year reached 93,677; the sales of fuel vehicles in July reached 18,522, and the cumulative sales this year reached 168,135.
Specifically, BYD fuel vehicles sold 18,522 new vehicles in July. Among them, sedans sold 3,173 units in July; SUVs sold 4,941 units; and MPVs sold 10,408 units that month. It can be seen that the sales of fuel vehicles in July have declined compared with previous months, and this phenomenon has already manifested in June. In June, although the sales of BYD’s most popular model Song MAX still exceeded 10,000, it showed a decline from the previous month. The monthly sales volume reached only 20,489 units, which was lower than expected. However, it is not difficult to find that the sales of BYD's fuel vehicles in the previous July have fluctuated, and unlike the monthly increase of new energy vehicles, the overall sales of fuel vehicles have shown a gradual decline.
Compared with fuel vehicles, the industry may pay more attention to BYD's performance in the new energy vehicle market. Driven by Qin, Tang, Song DM and other major new energy vehicles, BYD's new energy vehicle sales reached 18,793 in July, an increase of more than 7,000 compared to the same period last year. Among them, there are 18,203 new energy passenger vehicles, including 8,176 pure electric vehicles and 10,027 plug-in hybrid vehicles. Based on previous data, it can be seen that from January to July, BYD's new energy vehicle sales continued to rise, after catching up all the way, it exceeded the sales of fuel vehicles in July. However, due to poor performance at the beginning of the year, its cumulative sales in the first 7 months still lag far behind that of fuel vehicles.
As one of the first domestic companies that started to deploy new energy vehicles, BYD sold a total of 113,669 new energy vehicles in 2017, an increase of 13.4% year-on-year, and won the single-brand sales champion of new energy vehicles in China for four consecutive years. The sales target of 100,000 vehicles was exceeded. Combining the sales performance of the first seven months, it should not be difficult for BYD to reach 150,000 new energy vehicle sales in 2018, but it is obviously still very difficult to reach the annual target of 200,000 vehicles.
