Recently, SF has obtained the first domestic drone air operation (pilot) license. According to the license, SF Express can use the drone to carry out logistics and distribution in the pilot area approved by the Civil Aviation Administration. The issuance of the first operating license means that the use of industrial drones in China has achieved a policy breakthrough. So, the drone is sending the courier, is it really close?
SF's two-ton load?
As early as December 2017, large-scale drones independently developed by SF Express were tested in Yunnan. This is also the first SF in Nankang, the first drone logistics distribution pilot in Ganzhou, the UAV headquarters base settled in Chengdu Shuangliu, the amphibious drone first flight, the large tonnage modified drone first flight and many other innovations, no Another attempt in the field of man-machines.
It is understood that the SF based on the real business needs of customers, the joint partners Teng Dun and Jingrun Huachuang in a certain place in Yunnan, the first domestic large-scale UAV emergency supplies rapid delivery demonstration flight, simulation in an emergency, Use large unmanned aerial vehicles to carry out spare parts transportation, organize emergency repairs, and quickly resume communication.
The large-scale logistics drone used in this demonstration has a wingspan of 20 meters, a fuselage length of 10 meters, a take-off weight of about 3 tons and a load of 1.2 tons. It is one of the largest logistics drones in the world. The cruising speed can reach 250 km/h, the range can reach 3000 km, and the ceiling is 6000 meters.
In addition to airdropping the cargo to any area, the drone can also be used for transportation between the airport and the airport. It is suitable for a variety of logistics and transportation scenarios. It has become a large-scale manned transporter + branch line large drone + end small unmanned The three-stage air freight network of the aircraft has achieved 36 hours of access to an important part of the country.
Logistics industry is keen on drone distribution
This time, the first operating license was obtained, which made SF become the leader of domestic logistics drones. As early as 2012, SF put forward the idea of drone logistics. It hopes to realize the 36-hour national logistics network through the three-stage air freight chain of “large-scale transporter + branch large unmanned aerial vehicle + terminal small droneâ€.
For the drone, SF's idea is to use the drone to achieve the aviation logistics network to support the docking, supplemented by land transport and courier at the end of the delivery to complete the air network coverage of most cities. In other words, SF's drones are not only for the last mile of the terminal, but also for the drone transport.
According to reports, the maximum effective load of SF multi-rotor UAVs ranges from a few kilograms to tens of kilograms, and the maximum load range is from tens of kilometers to more than 100 kilometers. At the same time, SF Express is actively establishing the operation capability of branch logistics drones to jointly develop large-scale logistics drones. Recently, SF's shareholding company, Langxing UAV Company, specially developed the SAT for SF, with a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers. The cargo tank of 10 cubic meters can carry up to 1.5 tons of cargo and cruise at 260 kilometers per hour.
In terms of application, SF's drones will not directly target customers in the short term, but will carry out the distribution between SF Express's different outlets. Taking the pilot area for obtaining licenses as an example, SF Express is mainly used to send goods to remote areas where manpower distribution is difficult and slow to improve efficiency and reduce labor costs.
The market expects that Jingdong is the most promising company after SF. On February 5th, Jingdong was awarded the “Innovation Pilot of Multi-modal Transport of Airborne Logistics of Shaanxi UAVs†by the Northwest Regional Administration of Civil Aviation in Xi'an. Previously, Jingdong had obtained written approval from the Shaanxi Province for covering the airspace of the drones throughout the province.
Jingdong has completed the implementation of a series of supporting technologies and facilities such as the drone flight control dispatching center, the flying service center, the R&D center and the manufacturing center. At the same time, Jingdong United Nvidia announced that it will produce 1 million UAVs in the next five years, supplementing the lack of end-delivery capabilities and the high cost of pain.
The pilot of Jingdong also blossomed everywhere. In addition to Shaanxi, in December 2017, Jingdong launched a drone in Liangshan, Sichuan. On March 26 this year, Jingdong’s first drone distribution station in Hainan Province was officially opened. Jingdong Chairman and CEO Liu Qiangdong said that Jingdong will build tens of thousands of drone airports across the country, and all goods can be delivered to consumers within 24 hours.
In fact, the first test of domestic drones in the field of logistics was completed by Yuantong and Taobao in 2015. In October 2017, the rookie network publicly conducted a drone group test, which was loaded with 6 boxes of goods and took 9 minutes to fly over the strait of nearly 5 kilometers to provide logistics services for rural Taobao. In March of this year, the rookie experimented again and used the drone to undertake the picking of Shifeng Longjing.
Three major pain points for drone transportation
The enthusiasm of the domestic logistics industry for drones has come from the bottleneck of traditional express logistics methods. In the future, automobile saturation will further increase, and traditional ground transportation will be subject to more and more constraints. It is extremely urgent to build an efficient and fast logistics system. Logistics companies replenish their capacity through capital financing and leasing of trunk freighters; e-commerce companies further upgrade their warehousing capabilities to ensure that warehouses are close enough to target customers and reduce large-scale, high-efficiency trunk logistics. Although the above method has reduced the trunk logistics time, the branch logistics and the final one-kilometer distribution bottleneck still cannot effectively break through the existing technology, so all parties use the airspace below 1000 meters as the key resource, and the fixed-line fixed-wing + small-rotor drone becomes The key to development.
Despite the market's fierce battle, industry experts believe that there are still three issues to be solved in the future development of UAVs in the field of logistics:
First, the safety of drones, how to control the probability of accidents of drones within a reasonable range, the current technology can not completely eliminate public concerns;
Second, the stability problem is the same as that of a passenger airliner or cargo aircraft. UAVs, especially small drones, are more sensitive to weather effects, whether it is visible wind, rain, snow, fog and other large-scale weather factors, or clear-air wind shear, Unforeseen circumstances such as sudden airflow will have a greater impact on drones;
The third is the policy factor. In the application of drones, supervision is still at the stage of exploration, and the uncertainty is strong.
